Twenty billion barrels of oil have been pumped up from the Norwegian continental shelf since 1971. Today, oil and gas comprise a 47 percent share of the total Norwegian export market. The center of this market is Stavanger, nestled between lakes and fjords on the south coast of Norway.

In addition to the headquarters of over 60 petroleum companies, Stavanger is also home to Comfort Hotel Square, an award-winning flagship of Nordic Choice Hotels with an explicitly eco-friendly profile.
